Our Mission
Welcome to the Central Alberta Sports Club (CASC), where our mission is to nurture and develop the athletic potential of every child, regardless of their starting point. We believe that sports are not just about competition, but about building character, discipline, and a lifelong love of physical activity.
At CASC, we offer a wide range of multi-sport programs designed to cater to all ages and skill levels. Whether your child is just beginning their athletic journey or is looking to hone their skills in a specific sport, our inclusive and supportive environment is the perfect place to grow. Our unique tiered progression system evaluates each child’s base athletic abilities and sport-specific skills, allowing us to place them in the appropriate level for their development. This ensures that every child is challenged appropriately, while also experiencing the joy of progress and achievement.
Our team of professional coaches is dedicated to providing top-quality training that focuses on both athletic development and personal growth. We are passionate about helping each child reach their full potential, both on and off the field. Our Coaches
Matthew Armstrong
Matthew has coached for 10 years, and in that time he has coached in the NCAA (SFU), and trained youth athletes that have won 5 provincial and national titles. Right now, there are around 10-12 athletes in the NCAA and USports that Matthew has trained. He have lots of experience coaching at a high level, but also really enjoys coaching beginner and intermediate players and teaching them the skills needed to progress!

Frankie Tam
As a lifelong athlete, I have always been passionate about sports and physical activity. Throughout my life, I’ve immersed myself in a wide range of sports including soccer, tennis, table tennis, squash, and badminton, gaining valuable experience and skills in each discipline. Along with my love for sports, I have dedicated three years to coaching snowboarding, blending my enthusiasm for teaching with my commitment to helping others grow and achieve their potential. Whether on the field, the court, or the slopes, I’ve always found joy in encouraging others to push their limits and develop both their athletic abilities and confidence.

Ashley Ehret (17u)
I have been coaching competitive club volleyball with CASC for the past two years, continually expanding my knowledge through Volleyball Canada’s NCCP program. I have completed the Development Coach Training and am actively working toward more advanced certifications.
My passion for the sport began in Grade 6 and carried through to Grade 12, with club volleyball from U13 to U18. Even today, I remain an active player, competing in adult leagues and participating in both women’s and mixed recreational teams.
I began coaching to help create more opportunities for young athletes in Central Alberta to experience the sport I love — a passion I also share with my daughter. My coaching philosophy is simple: every player matters. I believe each athlete should leave every practice or game feeling proud, accomplished, and confident they had the chance to give their best.
For me, coaching goes beyond developing technical skills. It’s about building memories, fostering team spirit, and helping athletes develop a lifelong love for the game. I want my players to look back years from now and remember the sense of belonging, growth, and joy they felt as part of a team.
My advice to every athlete? Never give up, bring your best energy, and remember that a little fun — like a pre-game dance party — can go a long way in building connections and keeping the love of the game alive. Volleyball is about competing with heart, supporting your teammates, and savoring every moment on the court.

Peter Cummings (16u)
Coach Pete is in his second season with Central Alberta Sports Club (CASC), bringing a blend of formal training, competitive experience, and a genuine love for the game. He has completed his Volleyball Canada NCCP Development Coach Training and is working on his certification, as well as attending additional Coaching Symposiums through Volleyball Alberta.
As a player, Peter competed in high school volleyball, played in competitive adult leagues, and continues to enjoy the game in a recreational league. His lifelong involvement in volleyball fuels his commitment to helping athletes reach their full potential.
Guided by a “Ted Lasso” philosophy, Peter focuses on building confidence, fostering teamwork, and encouraging players to grow both as athletes and individuals—always keeping the love of the game at the center of every practice and match.

Brooke Bodnaryk (16u)
I’m incredibly excited to be coaching with CASC this season. Volleyball has been a huge part of my life for many years, as I started playing in middle school, continued through high school, and spent two years competing with EAVC. Before COVID hit, I had the opportunity to assist in coaching the U15 club team in my hometown, and I’ve stayed active in the sport ever since, currently playing in a mixed rec league in Red Deer.
My coaching philosophy is built around hard work, dedication, and a strong mindset. I believe volleyball is so much more than just a game; it’s a platform for teaching discipline, teamwork, communication, and leadership. These are skills that athletes can carry with them long after they leave the court.
This season, my goal is to help each player grow not only in their volleyball abilities but also in their confidence, resilience, and love for the sport. I want to create an environment where athletes feel supported, challenged, and empowered to push themselves to new levels. I’m passionate about helping young athletes develop both as players and as people, and I’m really looking forward to being part of their journey.
Let’s make it a great season!

Laura Oster (15u)
Laura Oster brings years of multi-sport coaching experience and a deep passion for youth development to the volleyball court. She’s entering her second season coaching with CASC and has previously completed Volleyball Canada’s NCCP Development Coach training. A lifelong athlete herself, Laura competed in volleyball, softball, and dance through her school years, and continues to coach fastball for over 16 years—often alongside her three daughters, two of whom now share her love for volleyball.
Inspired by her own coaches and her father, who coached ball and hockey, Laura is driven by a strong desire to give back and foster meaningful connections through sport.
Laura’s coaching philosophy is grounded in respect, effort, and growth. She strives to help every athlete master the fundamentals, reach their potential, and develop a love for the game. While competition is encouraged, she emphasizes fair play and building a team culture rooted in trust and positivity. Her practices are purposeful, engaging, and designed to be both challenging and fun, ensuring athletes stay motivated while developing confidence on and off the court.
For Laura, coaching goes far beyond the technical side of the sport—it’s about mentorship, life lessons, and relationships. She takes pride in being approachable and values open communication with both players and parents. Above all, she wants her athletes to feel supported, respected, and excited to show up to every practice, knowing they have a coach who’s truly in their corner.

Kasha Bowen (14u)
I’m entering my second season coaching with CASC, having previously coached high school volleyball for a year. As a player, I competed with Leduc Black Gold Volleyball and Sylvan Lake Wave, and it was the joy of the game that eventually brought me back to coach.
Coaching has allowed me to reconnect with the sport and give back to the volleyball community that shaped me. I focus on creating a space where athletes feel safe to grow, make mistakes, and build confidence. Effort, attitude, and accountability are at the heart of my coaching style.
Beyond volleyball skills, I want players to walk away with strong connections, teamwork, and life skills that last. My advice? Improvement takes consistency—on and off the court. Study the game, stay curious, and always bring energy and effort.
I’m always open to questions and committed to helping every athlete grow—not just in skill, but in mindset and confidence. Coaching isn’t just a role for me—it’s a passion.

Amber Remillard (12u)
My three children played with CASC last season and I had the opportunity to parent coach and volunteer with the CASC team. I look forward to developing my coaching skills further and helping athletes fall in love with the sport of volleyball! In addition to developing strong foundational skills, I believe that young athletes should have direct teaching about being a good teammate, taking feedback, and improving mindset, all of which help keep kids excited and wanting to come back to sport. Athletes should have the opportunity to learn that being together as a team, both on-and off- the court, is one of the best experiences there is!
I played high school and club volleyball, as well as with Medicine Hat College as a libero. Big defensive plays are still my favourite part of the sport. To make these plays you have to have a lot of spunk and they always get a team energized.
When I’m not coaching I like to be hiking in the mountains near Nordegg or on a hammock relaxing.
